POKOTABI / Iseya
伊勢屋
Nerima Ward's Iseya offers both traditional sweets and savory comfort foods, serving everything from popular tenmusu, filled onigiri, and fried chicken to generous mame daifuku and ohagi from morning to early afternoon.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Starting at 7:00, customers stream into Iseya in Kitamachi, Nerima Ward, keeping the counter busy before work and through weekend lunch hours. While functioning as a traditional Japanese confectioner, the shop puts equal care into a satisfying lineup of rustic rice balls, rolled sushi, and deli sides.
Among the rice items, tenmusu shrimp tempura rice balls are especially popular. The display also features seasoned cha-meshi, classic onigiri with fillings such as salmon, pickled plum, tuna, and shiso miso, as well as inarizushi and kanpyo-filled norimaki rolls. Adding a side of karaage fried chicken turns the selection into a hearty lunch.
Traditional sweets remain a core draw. The mame daifuku, with its thick layer of mochi wrapped around a generous mound of sweet red bean paste, has long satisfied local sweet tooths looking for a substantial treat. Comforting ohagi, skewered dango, and seasonal specialties such as sakuramochi and kusamochi in spring make it easy to understand why so many patrons leave with both lunch and dessert in hand.
The shop closes on Tuesdays and trades until 15:00 on business days. Items often thin out by early afternoon, so stopping by early is recommended if you have specific specialties in mind. Payment is cash only, so be sure to have coins or bills ready.
